What a fantastic televised spectacle and feast of running today at the Sports Ireland Campus in Abbots town for the European Cross Country Championships. The atmosphere was electric with enthusiastic and hoarse supporters, and so important for the sport to give the opportunity to upcoming athletes to be inspired by and to even meet the best of the best competing on Irish soil. It was a particularly great day for the U23 men’s team taking gold, led by 21-year-old Darragh McElhinney, who took individual silver. Let’s hope these talented men and women who participated for Ireland come through the difficult roads ahead and persevere in this great sport and become classy senior athletes. Let’s hope AAI, our Federation, support them all along the way.

The 2022 Raheny Shamrock AC 5 miler takes place on 30th January, 3.30pm. A brilliant race to target, to start the year off with a possible personal best. Entries are now open. Bring the family as children races take place from 1.30pm, so everyone can participate and enjoy a great day running. https://rahenyshamrock.ie/?p=5083
